Keep it Simple Series: The first question to ask yourself

This question is so simple – but it really says it all when it comes to cutting down on the clutter in your home (or office, for that matter).  So often, we keep items for reasons other than practicality.  Maybe it was a gift, or a hand-me-down from someone special to you, maybe it’s useful life isn’t over yet – even though you no longer use it.  Maybe there was a time in your life that you went without, and now you relish in having excess.

There are as many reasons for keeping items we don’t need or use as there are people seeking to declutter!  If you’re feeling overwhelmed in your space and find that you don’t have a home for everything, resulting in frequently misplaced items – then make a small shift in your daily routine.  As you encounter each item in your home, ask yourself, ” Is this something that I love, is it useful to me?  Does it warrant the space it’s taking up?  Or would it be better off going to someone who can use it?”  If the answer is yes – great, find a home for it.  If the answer is no – also great, now find a new home for it.  Keep a box for donations in a corner of your home and place items you can do without there.  When the box is full, donate the contents to an worthy organization  If the item in question is broken, or of no value, throw it away and make room for items that are worthy of the space.

Is your home helping you create the life you want?  When you’re in your home, are you a peace – are you inspired – do you feel energized?  You should, so if you’re not, I’d like to help you create the space that supports you creating the life you want!
