This question is so simple – but it really says it all when it comes to cutting down on the clutter in your home (or office, for that matter).  So often, we keep items for reasons other than practicality.  Maybe it was a gift, or a hand-me-down from someone special to you, maybe it’s useful life isn’t over yet – even though you no longer use it.  Maybe there was a time in your life that you went without, and now you relish in having excess.

No matter how big our home is, there is still a need for accessible, convenient, sensible storage solutions.  Believe it or not, my favorite organizing tool is the humble over-the-door pocket organizer  – you know, that thing that was originally intended as shoe storage.

They come in clear vinyl, canvas, white with colored trim – all sorts of colors, materials and price points.  This one is from Lowes and costs $15, but the vinyl versions are less than $10.   (more…)

Clearly – at #2 – getting more organized is a pretty common concern/resolution.  I’d like to help you get more organized!  While I’m at it, I’ll help you with resolution #5, too; because when we can find things at home, we don’t end up re-buying or replacing them.

You know what that means….your mom was right, again!  Honestly, the single most effective tool to keep your bedroom organized is to make your bed first thing when made-bedyou wake up in the morning.  It’s that simple!  Since the bed typically takes up the most space in the room, if it’s put together, the room has the overall appearance of being put together.  It’s so motivating to leave the room knowing that you’ve already got one item accomplished for the day!  Give it a try – I think you’ll agree that it really gets the day off to a great start.
